What the heck is this about, and why would I get in to it?
"What the heck is this about, and why would I get in to it?"
That's exactly what I was thinking when my friend and coach Allison suggested I become a coach. I had no interest in being a salesperson. I have had many friends be successful at selling thing like Mary Kay, 31, and Silpada-- I knew it worked well for them, but it was never something I was interested in. I couldn't see myself ever being passionate enough about a thing to sell it, and to be honest, direct sales felt a little slimy and 'off' to me after a few experiences I had had being a customer for other companies.
In my mission to 'keep it real' I am going to share my story of how that changed, how I got here, and why I am so glad I did!
I had contacted Allison because I saw she was a coach and I knew I needed to get started with another workout program. I had purchased and completed Focus T25 a couple months prior, so I knew the Beachbody programs worked and I knew they provided the structure, variety, and intensity I needed to get back on track.
I signed up as a coach because I would receive 25% off any of my future purchases including future shipments of the Shakeology I had decided to try. After verifying that I could cancel any time, I decided to give it a shot. I made it clear I would not be doing any coaching though-- I was signing up for the discount!
I got my program and Shakeology in the mail. A few surprise quickly followed. For one thing, I fell in love with the Shakeology. It became my favorite way to start my day. I couldn't believe I had been struggling through the work (and taste) of making my own 'green' smoothies everyday to try and get in less than half of the nutrients that this delicious shake had, and less than a quarter of the protein. I was hooked!
The next thing that happened is that Allison added me in to an online challenge group full of other people doing the same workout and nutrition program that I was. I was amazed at what a difference it made to have the accountability of other people. It was so great to have support from people who really got it. When I was struggling with a lack of motivation or craving unhealthy food they could all understand. When I had a great workout or made a delicious new recipe for dinner they appreciated the accomplishment so much more, because they understood it!
I shared my excitement with a family member and without hesitation they jumped on board! They were waiting for some motivation to get healthier, and my excitement and passion for it was enough to push them to get started.
That was the moment that my mindset shifted. I didn't want to be a 'salesperson', but that's not what being a coach is! What I did want was to help other people have the 'AHA' moments that I have had! I want to help people get healthier, feel stronger, look better and see all of the amazing things their bodies are capable of. I want to support people who may otherwise be alone in their journeys. I also want the accountability for myself. When I first started my OWN challenge group, I realized how much these people were counting on me. I needed to be an example. I needed to push myself if I was going to expect them to do the same! That kind of accountability ha really helped me grow as a person!
I have a full-time job that I am incredibly passionate about. I have 2 perfectly imperfect children and a wonderful husband. I knew how blessed I was, but I still just felt 'blah' all the time. What I needed in my life was something that was for ME. Something that would not only help me in my goals of being happy, healthy, and fit, but also push me even further than I ever imagined. What I needed was some passion! Beachbody has given that to me.
I unknowingly started a journey that has helped me financially, emotionally and physically. I have stepped (and sometimes JUMPED) outside of my comfort zone, only to realize that that is where the real growth happens. I am not a 'salesperon', but I do want to 'sell' every person I encounter on a healthier lifestyle, whether that includes Beachbody products or not. I want others to experience how GOOD I feel, and I want them to have support in their journey-- wherever it takes them!
